Yannick Carrasco ‘close to joining Arsenal’ as he suggests ‘negotiations are going well’

Yannick Carrasco has suggested he is edging closer to a move to Arsenal this summer.

The former Atletico Madrid winger has been eyed by Unai Emery and Arsenal for a while, with the Gunners expressing an interest in signing him in January before moving for Denis Suarez instead.

But they have moved for him again as they look to improve their side this window and, the 25-year-old said he wanted to return to Europe.

‘Negotiations are going well,’ the Belgium international said, according to Spanish newspaper Sport

‘I am aware that I am an important player for the team but I hope they let me leave.

‘From a personal and family point of view, I would like to return to Europe.’

Carrasco, who has spent the last year and a half at Chinese Super League side Dalian Yifang, also believes he would suit playing in the Premier League.

He added: ‘The Premier League is more physical, but there are also a lot of spaces to run into.’

Emery and Arsenal are limited in terms of their budget after missing out on a place in the Champions League last season.

They finished outside of the top four and lose to Chelsea in the Europa League final last month.
