Willian opens up tactical frustrations after summer move from Chelsea to Arsenal

Willian has opened up on his tactical frustration following his move to Arsenal from Chelsea.

Although the Brazil international is enjoying life under Mikel Arteta, he has admitted to mixed emotions regarding a change of tactics that he isn’t used to.

The 32-year-old, who joined on a free transfer in the summer, has made five Premier League appearances for the Gunners, winning three times and losing twice.

Arteta has also mentioned how impressed he has been with his new forward since his arrival.

“It’s been a cool, new experience. I hadn’t worked with a coach with that mindset,” he told Globo Esporte.

“The positional game doesn’t mean that you have no freedom on the pitch, you have the freedom to move, but many times you have to respect the position, what the coach asks, the instructions, understanding that it’ll be better for the team.

“It may happen that you don’t touch the ball and get frustrated, but Mikel always says that, wait a minute, the ball will arrive. I’ve been learning a lot.”

With Arteta adding of his impressive debut display: “With some players when that [winning trophies] happened they have a full stomach but with Willian, I got the opposite feeling.

“He wanted more and how he wanted to move to a different club and get to the level that he got before.

“So I’m really pleased because he showed [at Fulham] how much he really wants it and how much he is going to drive the other players on in order to achieve that.”

The Spaniard has also mentioned Willian’s return to fitness ahead of their Europa League clash against Dundalk.

He said: “There is no chance [David Luiz will play].

”He’s a big doubt for the weekend too. Willian is back in training, he might be involved at some stage. Bukayo Saka is fine, it was a knock, but he’s fine.”
