Arsenal are closing in on the signing of Saliba after making him one of their top targets this summer.
The 18-year-old had a hugely impressive campaign for Saint-Etienne last season after breaking into their first-team.
Saliba made 19 appearances for the Ligue 1 side throughout last campaign, representing France’s Under-20s as well.
And for the Gunners, a centre-back has been top priority – with the form of Shkodran Mustafi and Sokratis Papastathopoulos leaving fans wild.
Reports broke earlier in the summer that Arsenal had agreed a deal that would see Saliba stay with Les Verts for one more year.
But recent news revealed that Spurs had gatecrashed the transfer in a late bid to snap up the prospect.
It left many Gunners fans worried but French outlet Peuple-Vert has allayed those fears.
They have revealed that Arsenal have won the race for the youngster for two reasons.
The Emirates outfit put an initial £25m bid in but have upped that to £36m now, made up of £30m and then £6m in add-ons, blowing Tottenham out of the water.
Added on top of that, the north London side have also slapped a 20 per cent sell-on clause for any future transfer, Peuple-Vert report.
Arsenal are in the market for a number of players this summer but have so far only signed 18-year-old Gabriel Martinelli.
Unai Emery is keen on signing a centre-back, a left-back, a wide forward and a replacement for Aaron Ramsey.
Expectations for next year are low and even board director Josh Kroenke warned fans not to await trophies.
“As much as we would love to say that we’ll be competing for the top trophies tomorrow, we know that that’s not the case and that we have to get to work on that,” he told the club’s website.
“That’s a daily approach to the little things from the top down.
“We understand that there’s a daily approach and a daily requirement of detail that goes into the overall approach of building the club back to where it needs to be.”
