Arsenal full-back Hector Bellerin has emerged as a potential transfer target for Atletico Madrid.
The Champions League regulars are on the lookout for a new long-term right-back having lost veteran Juanfran.
Bellerin spent half of the 2018/19 season on the sidelines after sustaining a bad knee injury against Chelsea in January.
The former Barcelona youngster is expected to miss the first few weeks of the 2019/20 season (via The Mirror).
His return to action is highly anticipated by many Arsenal fans, who watched him become one of the team’s most consistent performers under Unai Emery.
Atletico could offer Spanish winger Vitolo in a bid to land Bellerin, with Emery having worked with the 29-year-old at Sevilla.
The 12-cap Spain international is a versatile player who can do jobs on either flank.
Emery arguably needs fresh impetus in the wide areas, but there are question marks against Vitolo’s quality.
In his two seasons at Atletico he has scored just four goals in all competitions, and was loaned out for part of 2017/18 to Las Palmas, where he scored once.
Arsenal fans react
Many Arsenal fans were disgruntled with the reports.
Bellerin has had some patchy form in recent years but fans know his potential is high.
And it would seem very few are open to the idea of Vitolo pitching up at the Emirates as makeweight:
😀😀😀😀 why on earth will we want Vitolo or even think about selling Bellerin

No chance, selling Bellerin would be really stupid. He’s one of the only players left that knows what it means to wear the shirt. One of the best RB’s in the league.
