Why Chelsea can trump Arsenal and Everton in Wilfried Zaha transfer

Zaha is fast becoming the transfer saga of the summer after it emerged Everton had registered an interest in him.

Crystal Palace have always maintained that his price is £80m – a fee clubs are reluctant to meet.

The Eagles do not want to lose another star player after the departure of Aaron Wan-Bissaka to Manchester United earlier this summer.

But it is understood that Zaha is keen on a move away and wants the chance to play in Europe and amend his own less-than impressive spell at United.

Arsenal would be able to offer him the chance to play in the Europa League and Unai Emery wants to sign him to add to his frontline of Alexandre Lacazette and Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang.

However, their own offer of £40m was considered derisory – but they will go in again with another bid.

But their indecision has allowed Everton to steal in with their own offer.

The Telegraph are reporting that the Toffees are prepared to give Palace £60m and Cenk Tosun for the Ivory Coast international.

Tosun was on the London club’s radar for some time while he was at Besiktas before his move to Everton in January 2018.

Palace are also keen on bolstering their attack, with Jordan Ayew also joining this week permanently from Swansea.

But the Telegraph also report that Chelsea are sniffing around the 26-year-old despite a transfer ban.

However, the Blues are able to offer Palace a deal that suits all parties.

Chelsea have not been banned from conducting business, just registering new players, so they could buy Zaha but allow him to play at Selhurst Park for another season.

With the club in the Champions League, they would also be a more attractive destination for the winger than Everton or Arsenal.

Palace could receive the full asking price, or the bulk of it, keep their main man for another year and also have ample time to sort out a replacement.

The Stamford Bridge outfit would also be able to wean themselves off their dependence on ageing wingers Willian and Pedro, who will be 31 and 32 by the time this season starts.
