What Unai Emery gave Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang after £72m Nicolas Pepe transfer

The Gunners smashed their transfer record to bring in Ivorian winger Pepe from Lille for £72m.

Aubameyang previously held that record, having joined from Borussia Dortmund in January 2018 for £56m.

He went on to share the Premier League Golden Boot last year on 22 goals, and has been the focal point of Arsenal’s team for a while.

And it seems Emery is keen for him to know he is still his star man.

Arsenal are currently in discussions with Aubameyang to extend his contract, which expires in 2021.

And according to the Telegraph , Emery has assured him that he will still have a key role at the club, despite signing Pepe.

Several clubs across Europe were reportedly interested in the Gabon international after his terrific season last term.

And Emery is keen to tie him down for the long-term future by offering him a hefty pay rise.

Aubameyang currently earns £200,000-a-week, some way of Mesut Ozil’s staggering £350,000 sum.

And while the Gabonese should see his salary rise, he is unlikely to match the German’s wages.

Aubameyang was also impressed by the club’s recruitment over the summer, and there is an air around the club that qualification to the Champions League is a possibility this season.

And the forward will reportedly receive a whopping bonus if Arsenal clinch a place in the competition next term.
