Arsenal’s summer plans have taken a hit after failing to reach the Champions League, following a fifth-placed finish in the Premier League and Europa League final defeat to Chelsea.
It means that they will have to scour the bargain bin for players after it was revealed that their transfer budget was a measly £40m.
With Unai Emery already battling against the odds to mount a serious challenge to finish in the top four, it represents a whole new problem.
But this figure can be increased with player sales and one star’s comments have left the club worried about a massive exit.
Torreira recently stated that he preferred life in Serie A despite coming off the back of a strong debut season for the Gunners.

When asked what he enjoys about life in England, Torreira replied: “I don’t know if there are many things that I enjoy.
“I think it was better in Italy. England is a totally different world, a very large country.
“The language [barrier] has cost me, to be able to relate with my peers and with the people. It is very difficult when you can’t have dialogue.”
It has led to a potential scramble for his services, with AC Milan and Napoli interested in the Uruguayan.
Torreira arrived at the Emirates for £27m from Sampdoria last season, but at the time there was strong interest from the two Serie A clubs.
And the Evening Standard have revealed that Arsenal are worried that the two clubs will embark on a bidding war to secure his services this time round.
Emery sees the 23-year-old has an integral part of his midfield and is reluctant to lose two stars in the same position, with Aaron Ramsey already departing for Juventus.
However, the report goes on to state that should a bid come in that is impossible to resist, Torreira may well be off.
A price has not been quoted but it is understood that it would have to be a substantial amount more than what they paid for him in the summer of 2018.
Arsenal have a number of transfer targets and Emery is keen to get things underway as soon as possible.
The Spaniard wants to improve his squad and finish in the top four and targets include William Saliba, Ryan Fraser and Kieran Tierney.
