“We sign who we want” – These Arsenal fans react to reported £72m agreement

According to the BBC, Arsenal have agreed a fee of £72 million with Lille to sign Nicolas Pepe. The player’s representatives must now strike a deal with the Gunners before the winger’s switch to the Emirates Stadium can be completed.

If the north London club can pull this transfer off it will be a major statement of intent. Having missed out on Champions League qualification last season, for the third consecutive campaign, to sign such an exciting talent demonstrates the club’s ambition to reach the highest level again.

Pepe is hot property right now. Last season, the 24-year-old was in prolific form. Over the course of the campaign, he registered 23 goals and 12 assists for Lille in all competitions. If he can translate that form over to the Premier League, then Arsenal will have one of the most potent attackers in the country.

Unai Emery will certainly be delighted to add Pepe to his ranks. Having lost Welbeck on a free transfer, the Spanish coach’s squad is short on wide players. The 11-cap Ivory Coast international represents a huge upgrade on the Englishman too.

Following the emergence of the aforementioned report, plenty of Arsenal fans took to Twitter to give their reactions to the news.
