Arsenal are sweating over the fitness of Alexandre Lacazette after he left the Emirates wearing a protective boot having picked up an ankle injury during the defeat against Lyon this afternoon.
Lacazette started up front with Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang during the Emirates Cup clash but he limped off after just 12 minutes to be replaced by Reiss Nelson after suffering an ankle problem.
Fans hoped it was just as a precaution but the striker has sparked major concern after Lacazette was spotted leaving the stadium wearing a protective boot on his left leg after the game.
You can see a video of the Frenchman limping his way through the media zone at the foot of the article.
Unai Emery provided an update on the situation during his post-match press conference and he told reporters that Lacazette will be assessed on Monday and confirmed he’s picked up an ankle issue.
However, thankfully, the boss has suggested the problem isn’t thought to be serious so it seems the protective boot may have just been precautionary.
Emery is quoted as saying by Football London:
The doctor said to me he’s going to check tomorrow…it’s in his ankle.
He’s going to be assessed over the next few days – it’s not serious.
Let’s wait for an update from the club on Monday once he’s been further assessed but I pray for good news as it would be a huge blow if the injury is worse than first anticipated.
Lacazette was superb for Arsenal last season and I think he’ll be even better this coming campaign so we need him fit and firing on all cylinders when we take on Newcastle on the opening weekend on August 11th.
