France manager Didier Deschamps has given his view on fresh call-up Matteo Guendouzi ahead of tomorrow night’s clash with Andorra, where he could make his debut.
As per French outlet Foot Mercato, Deschamps urged Arsenal fans not to expect too much too soon from the midfielder but made it clear he’s a big fan.
Warning Arsenal’s fans, he said: “Do not ask too much, he’s a young player, who is still the Espoirs generation, who plays a lot of matches with Arsenal where there is strong competition.
“He’s the modern midfielder, box to box as they say there, with a lot of power and technical quality too. He’s there. What I expect from young people is that they bring this freshness, this dynamism. He is a very young player but with a very big potential.”
TBR’s View – Guendouzi’s challenge is now to ensure he doesn’t run out of steam
Guendouzi has been a key player in Arsenal’s team already this season and the challenge for him is ensuring he stays there and isn’t dropped out to be given a rest.
That’s the issue for most young players – managers fear a drop in their levels and pull them out to offer a rest.
Guendouzi must show Unai Emery he’s the man who can be trusted to anchor midfield all season long and then he may force himself into the French squad for next summer’s European Championship.
