Unai Emery has faith Mesut Ozil can adapt to Arsenal’s high-intensity style — but delivered a double warning yesterday to the out-of-favour star.
The Spanish manager reminded Ozil nobody will get preferential treatment at the club and that there is genuine competition for every spot in the team.
‘He can play how I want, but now we have a lot of players being competitive in each position on the pitch and they deserve to be able to help and to play,’ explained Emery.

The World Cup winner was omitted from Emery’s squad for their Europa League game
‘Now every player is the same and I want to train, I want them to be pushing to achieve one position in the squad, in the first XI.
‘If we continue being competitive and getting better, it is the best for our present and future.’
Ozil sat out Arsenal’s 4-0 Europa League win at home to Standard Liege on Thursday and a player who walked into the team regardless of form under Arsene Wenger is finding life very different under Emery.
He looked to have overcome a shaky start to his player-manager relationship with Emery last season, but has been left out of the squad for the last two games.
Arsenal are hoping to loan out their £350,000-a-week top earner in January. In the meantime, Ozil will have to up his game to regain a place in Emery’s plans.
