Unai Emery has reiterated that Mesut Ozil does have a future at Arsenal.
The former Germany international is facing an uncertain future at Arsenal after falling down the pecking order since Emery’s appointment as Arsene Wenger’s replacement in May 2018.
Ozil struggled to hold down a regular starting spot in the Gunners team last season to fuel speculation that the playmaker could leave the Europa League runners-up in the summer.
However, the former Real Madrid midfielder has remained at Arsenal with two days left of Europe’s transfer window.
Ozil hasn’t featured in the Premier League so far this season as summer signing Dani Ceballos continues to impress in the playmaker role for Emery’s side.
However, the Arsenal manager has challenged Ozil to get himself to full match fitness after reiterating that the Gunners need the World Cup winner.
“With Mesut Ozil it’s the same message to him that I can say to you: We need him – and him firstly to be consistent in training, to be available in each match,” Emery is quoted as saying by the Daily Mirror.
“For example, last week he wasn’t ready to play 100 percent at Liverpool . This week he is getting better with each training session and physically he is now better.
“We need him because he is a different player in our team. We have different ways to prepare to win, and different qualities with the players, different characteristics from them. We need him to be available and he can help us with his quality.”
Arsenal will take on their bitter rivals Tottenham Hotspur in the north London derby at The Emirates on Sunday afternoon.
The Gunners suffered a 3-1 loss to Liverpool FC at Anfield last weekend as they saw their perfect start to the season come to an end.
Arsenal haven’t won the Premier League title since 2003-04 when Wenger’s side finished the season unbeaten.
The north London side signed six new players in the summer transfer window.
