Transfer news: Unai Emery ‘convinced’ loan signing Dani Ceballos can improve Arsenal

Unai Emery had no hesitation about loaning Dani Ceballos without an option to buy as he is ‘convinced’ the midfielder will still improve his Arsenal squad while he is at the Emirates this season.

Arsenal have agreed a loan deal with Real Madrid for 22-year-old Ceballos.

But the Spanish giants would only sanction a one-year agreement without a buying option because they believe Ceballos has a long-term future at the Bernabeu.

Ceballos will head to the Emirates over Tottenham, who also had discussions over a move for the Spanish Under 21 starlet but the lack of a permanent option was one of the sticking points for Arsenal’s north London rivals.

Arsenal’s temporary move for Ceballos, even without the chance to buy, still has the potential to be a shrewd one with the youngster highly-rated and Arsenal’s budget tight this summer.

They have been able to fill the midfield void left by Aaron Ramsey but without putting a huge dent in their £45m transfer budget that would occur with a permanent signing.

Arsenal head coach Emery said: ‘When we are speaking about the possibility about how we can improve with some different players to achieve for us, to come here and play, it’s one work for the club to work out how is the way, how is the contract with the [other] team.

‘After, when I have the player here, for me it is the same, every player they are the same, some players with contracts and some players who can’t come here for long.

‘For me, it is to improve our team, and we are speaking about this, [we want] to sign players only if we are convinced they are going to improve our [squad] and be able to help us with different qualities with different conditions.

‘I don’t know how many we are going to sign, but there is two or three, no more than four, who can improve that.’
