Real plot Pogba swap
Real Madrid could offer James Rodriguez to Manchester United in a bid to land Paul Pogba.
Rodriguez, who has returned to the Bernabeu after a two-year loan spell at Bayern Munich, is not wanted by Zinedine Zidane.
And Real Madrid bigwigs believe they can use the 27-year-old as leverage to secure an agreement with their Old Trafford counterparts.
“Pogba is very complicated at this moment,” Eduardo Inda said on Spanish television programme El Chiringuito de Jugones.
“It is the great star of Manchester, Madrid offers 120 more incentives, which could reach 150. Manchester asks for 180.”
Tottenham James hijack
Tottenham failed in a late attempt to hijack Manchester United’s move for Daniel James.
United have been chasing James for weeks as part of Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s transfer policy of targeting young, homegrown talent.
And they look to have finally got their man after confirming they have agreed a deal in principle with Swansea.
James is expected to be unveiled next week in a transfer worth £15m plus add-ons.
But it could have been different if Spurs had got their way.
According to Football Insider, Tottenham tried to convince the winger to move to north London instead.
However, James had his heart set on a switch to Old Trafford and was not ready to have his head turned.
Solskjaer makes Young decision
Ole Gunnar Solskjaer has risked the wrath of fans by refusing to sell Ashley Young.
Solskjaer wants to keep Young and has told the veteran defender he will be staying at Old Trafford this summer.
Young, 33, signed a 12 month contract extension in February that runs until the end of next season.
But supporters are desperate to see Solskjaer reduce the age of his squad and bring in some young talent during the close season.
But Starsport understands Solskjaer will keep Young and has told him his experience and influence in the dressing room remains vital.
The news will stun fans, who believe Young is past his best and shouldn’t be part of the future under Solskjaer.
Kane to Man City?
Danny Mills has backed Manchester City to stun Tottenham and sign Harry Kane.
He told Football Insider: “It’s very difficult when big clubs come knocking. If somebody comes to you and says, ‘I will give you three times as much money to play football for us’, it is very difficult to not at least think about it.
“It could be a club who are challenging for trophies. If you are in Kane’s situation, Manchester City are going to need a replacement for Sergio Aguero soon and you can be certain they will be looking at him.
“These Spurs players are at the level where they have the choice of which club they want to play for. There are options open to them.”
£42m Arsenal deal
Arsenal are confident of sealing a deal for Sampdoria pair Dennis Praet and Joachim Andersen.
The Gunners have launched a fresh bid of €48m (£42m) but the Serie A giants would prefer a higher fee.
However, Italian journalist Nicolo Schira has revealed it could be finalised soon.
He tweeted: “Tonight #Arsenal have sent a new offer to #Sampdoria for Joaquim #Andersen and Dennis #Praet: €48M for both.
“Steps forward for finalize the deal, even if Ferrero wants more.”
Liverpool abandon Dembele chase
Liverpool have given up on Moussa Dembele and will instead stick with Champions League hero Divock Origi.
The France international had been linked with Liverpool, Chelsea, Arsenal and Manchester United.
Journalist Duncan Castles told The Transfer Window podcast: “Liverpool I think is the weakest of these [Premier League clubs linked with Dembele].
“They see Dembele as an alternative option upfront, but I think Divock Origi’s fine end to the season has probably ruled out, or mainly ruled out, Dembele’s chance of going there.
“I think Liverpool are more likely to stick with Origi and buy a forward of a different type to supplement Mane and Salah.”
And Castles also revealed Liverpool have enquired about Lille forward Nicolas Pepe.
