Liverpool free to sign anyone?

Liverpool could “sign practically anybody” that Jurgen Klopp wants, according to football finance expert Kieran Maguire.

Rumours of a £70m move for Lille forward Nicolas Pepe refuse to go away, however, and Maguire reckons the club could make a big signing happen.

“Liverpool finished second in the Premier League and actually generated more money from TV from the Premier League than Manchester City because they were on television live more often,” he told the Blood Red Podcast.

“Combine that with the additional revenue from the Champions League, and Liverpool’s cash reserves are high.

“They can sign practically anybody they choose. If Jurgen Klopp feels there are still one or two places missing in terms of the squad, they could spend £50m-£60m on a player today, absolutely.

“Plus the fact that Liverpool don’t need to sell and players don’t want to leave. They could spend another £150m if they wanted to this summer.”

Man Utd to fork out £140m on trio?

Manchester United believe they are on course to land both Sean Longstaff and Bruno Fernandes by next week.

The signing of Crystal Palace’s talented right-back Aaron Wan-Bissaka is expected to finally be confirmed today for £50m and he has already completed a medical and penned a contract.

Next on Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s agenda is sorting out his midfield, with moves for Sporting star Fernandes and Newcastle youngster Longstaff in the pipeline.

United face no competition now for either player and their free run at Longstaff means he is poised to join for just £25m, according to the London Evening Standard.

Fernandes, meanwhile, is expected to cost £65m as ESPN say talks have been held with the Portugal international’s agent.

United spent £18m on first summer addition Daniel James, and he is on course to be joined by the trio for a collective £140m, with all three potentially becoming United players by next week.

Arsenal have Zaha belief?

Arsenal are ready to test Crystal Palace’s resolve by launching a push to sign £80m-rated Wilfried Zaha.

The Ivory Coast star wants out of Selhurst Park and intermediaries have made it clear to Arsenal he wants to join them.

The Gunners believe Palace will be forced to accept a much lower valuation of the player because he wants to join them.

Any move for Zaha depends on Arsenal being able to sell players – but there is growing confidence they will be successful with a summer clear-out.

Arsenal could even offer Palace a player in part exchange for Zaha – but it is understood he is not currently considering making a transfer request to force his way out.

Kovacic returning to Chelsea today?

Mateo Kovacic is poised to complete his return to Chelsea on a permanent basis today after spending the season on loan there from Real Madrid.

Zinedine Zidane has approved the Croatia midfielder’s departure.

And despite Chelsea’s transfer ban, they have been able to secure a move for Kovacic as he was registered as their player for the 2018/19 season.

The £40m deal is done with personal terms having been agreed yesterday.

According to Italian journalist Gianluca Di Marzio, Kovacic will sign for Chelsea today.
