Transfer News: Everton offer ‘£55m plus Cenk Tosun and James McCarthy’ in new bid for Wilfried Zaha

Everton have reportedly lodged an improved bid for Wilfried Zaha worth £55million and includes Cenk Tosun and James McCarthy.

As Sportsmail revealed on Sunday, the Toffees saw their opening bid of £52m pushed back by Crystal Palace, who value their star player at £80m.

Zaha has publicly expressed his desire to leave the Eagles this summer and the Ivory Coast international has attracted heavy interest from both Everton and Arsenal.

The Gunners appear to have recently turned their attentions towards a £72m deal for Lille forward Nicolas Pepe, leaving Everton the main suitors for Zaha’s signature.

Sportsmail reported on Friday that Everton were likely to make a player-plus-cash offer that would include Tosun and McCarthy.

And according to Sky Sports, Everton have now made a bid including both players plus £55m.

Roy Hodgson has recently claimed to be in the dark about the future of his talisman, stating that transfer negotiations were being solely conducted by chairman Steve Parish.

‘He’s dealing with the chairman at the moment, the chairman’s his link and they get on very well’, Hodgson told Sky Sports.

‘Most of what’s going on with Wilfried is going on between him and the chairman. I can’t enlighten you at all, I know what you know I guess.

‘I know it through reading on your websites or newspapers that this or that’s happening.’

Palace regard Zaha as integral to their Premier League prospects, and with Aaron Wan-Bissaka already departing for Manchester United off the back of a deal that could rise to £60m, they will not let Zaha leave on the cheap.

Their reported new offer would be a club record for Everton, surpassing the £45m paid for Gylfi Sigurdsson.

Palace also saw an £8m bid for McCarthy turned down last week, and the Toffees see including him in a potential deal as a way of ensuring both sides are happy.
