Transfer News: Danny Welbeck struggling to find a new club due to ‘high wage demands’

Danny Welbeck is reportedly struggling to find a new club due to his high wage demands.

The free agent, who was released by Arsenal earlier this month, missed the majority of last season with a serious ankle injury sustained against Sporting in the Europa League last November.

The forward has been plagued by injuries since arriving at Arsenal from Manchester United back in 2015 and that has put off suitors.

But according to the Sun, the lack of interest is compounded not only by his chequered injury history, but also by his wage demands of £100,000-per-week plus a signing on fee in the region of £5million.

DANNY WELBECK’S CAREER BY NUMBERS

Manchester United (2008-2014)

Appearances: 142

Goals/assists: 29/21

Preston North End (2010, loan)

Appearances: 8

Goals/assists: 2/2

Sunderland (2010-11, loan)

Appearances: 26

Goals/assists: 6/1

Arsenal (2014-2019)

Appearances: 126

Goals/assists: 32/15

Clubs are reportedly unwilling to take a financial risk on the England international, who made just 46 Premier League appearances in four years at the Emirates.

Lazio join several Premier League clubs monitoring the situation, but no club has yet made Welbeck a concrete offer.

The 28-year-old scored 32 goals from 126 appearances for the Gunners following a £16m arrival from Manchester United, where he came through the academy ranks.

His England strike-rate has been highly impressive, scoring 16 goals from 42 appearances, but he missed the World Cup last season following repeated injuries to his knees.

In total, Welbeck has missed 123 matches with Arsenal due to injury, and it was his unfortunate season-ending ankle break that led to new Gunners boss Unai Emery deciding he would not renew his contract amid constraints on his transfer budget.
