Tottenham fans have been busy reminding their north London counterparts that this evening’s Champions League draw will be a Arsenal free zone.
The Gunners had fourth or even third place in the Premier League well within their grasp as last season reached its crescendo.
But Unai Emery’s side hit a wall and slumped to a fifth placed finish, just one point behind Spurs.
It means Arsenal are faced with their third consecutive season in the Europa League, a galling prospect after losing last year’s final 4-1 to Chelsea in humiliating fashion.
On the plus side, this year’s showpiece is in Gdansk, Poland rather than Baku, Azerbaijan.
Tottenham, Manchester City, Chelsea and Liverpool will all be expectantly tuning in to discover their group stage opponents at 6pm.
But Arsenal and Manchester United will have to wait another 24 hours after the final Europa League play-off games are completed.
And ahead of the upcoming north London derby on Sunday, Spurs fans have been getting some cheap digs in on social media.
“Wonder what Arsenal fans will do today when CL draw is on as 5pm is a bit early for Emmerdale,” tweeted one supporter.
“Just a reminder that if Aubameyang didn’t miss the penalty at Wembley it would be Arsenal in the Champions League draw today,” another added.
“However, it’s Spurs… enjoy your Thursday!”
A third fan wrote: “It’s UCL draw time for City, Chelsea, Liverpool and Tottenham fans!
“United and Arsenal fans can watch Only Fools and Horses on BBC 2.”
Meanwhile, Spurs boss Mauricio Pochettino has been told to start Christian Eriksen despite uncertainty over his future.
Former Tottenham manager Harry Redknapp told talkSPORT: “Without Dele Alli, Eriksen is the only player Spurs have got who can make that final pass. Why was he on the bench?
“I know he wants to go, but while he’s there I’d still be looking to play him to win games.
If there is a problem with him, why bring him on, just because you’re in trouble?”
