Arsenal and West Ham United have been dealt a transfer blow as Alexis Claude-Maurice has revealed a desire to move to the Bundesliga.
The Lorient winger has been heavily linked with both London clubs in recent weeks, with the Gunners seemingly the most keen.
Both teams have made bids for the player but the Ligue 2 side have stood firm over their prized asset so far.
Speaking in an interview with L’Equipe, he said (quoted by Sky Sports): “Now I feel like it’s time to leave, to join a club that is playing at a higher level.
“I want to join [Borussia] Monchengladbach. It is a club that relies on young people, there is a good structure, the team will play in the Europa League. This project pleases me and suits me.”
Such comments would suggest that it is now highly unlikely Arsenal or West Ham will be signing the talented France U20 international this summer.
Monchengladbach may be the player’s preferred destination, but there is still a question of whether they can afford the starlet.
GFFN recently reported Lorient want £18 million, and that Arsenal had been preparing to make another offer this weekend.
Arsenal are losing Danny Welbeck this summer, while West Ham need younger options in attack.
If Claude-Maurice, scorer of 14 goals last season, does pitch up at Monchengladbach, then it could be a real regret for both Premier League sides.
