The FOUR players who could leave Arsenal as Gunners eye Dayot Upamecano deal

Emery has a shopping list with the names of the players he wants but is only believed to have around £40m to spend.

The budget may have been double that had Arsenal qualified for next season’s Champions League but they fell short.

One area that definitely needs reinforcing is the defence which has been the Gunners’ Achilles heel once again this season.

Barcelona centre-back Samuel Umtiti is Emery’s preferred first choice signing but he is believed to be favouring staying and fighting for his play at the Nou Camp.

Umtiti would also swallow up most of the transfer budget and therefore other options are bing explored.

The club reportedly sent a scout to watch highly-rated Dayot Upamecano feature for France’s Under 21s as they beat Belgium 3-0 in Le Mans.

The 20-year-old RB Leipzig centre back was a top performer in the Bundesliga this season, helping his team to a third place finish.

Upamecano is under contract until 2021 and has been offered a new deal by Leipzig but is yet to sign it and could be tempted by the lure of the Premier League.

Arsenal are also looking at Sampdoria centre back Joachim Andersen, who is rated at £25m and would represent a cheaper alternative than either Umtiti or Upamecano.

Emery could be willing to offload up to four players to fund these deals.

Stephan Lichtsteiner has already been allowed to go, while Laurent Koscielny is also likely to leave.

Henrikh Mkhitaryan and Shkodran Mustafi could also be shown the exit door, and all could still command decent fees and are deemed to have short-term futures at the club.

Ideally Emery would like the Gunners to sell Mesut Ozil, with his mammoth wages crippling the clubs budget, but so far no potential suitors have come forward.

The only players attracting any real interest are ones that Emery wants to keep, including Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang, who has been linked with a move to China.

Aubameyang has two years left on his contract but is in line for an extension after a stellar season in which he finished joint top scorer in the Premier League.
