‘Superb’, ‘Very, very good’: Some fans react to £75k-a-week Arsenal loanee’s display for their club

It appears that Atletico Madrid supporters are starting to wonder if their club has produced a transfer masterstroke after watching Lucas Torreira make his debut following his loan switch from Arsenal.

Torreira arrived at Wanda Metropolitano on the final day of the international window. But having been away on international duty, Saturday’s clash with Celta Vigo was the first time the Atleti fans got a chance to watch the Uruguayan in action for them.

And it proved to be a really successful debut for the midfielder. Diego Simeone’s side won 2-0 with their goals coming at either end of the game.

As shown by, Torreira completed 53 successful passes. Koke was the only Atletico player to complete more.

Meanwhile, he managed to make five interceptions. No player on the pitch made more, with Koke proving his only teammate to also manage more than two.

And Torreira – who earns £75,000-a-week, according to Spotrac – already looks to be well on his way to winning the supporters over. He was really struggling with cramp for the final stages of the game. But he managed to somehow finish the contest with Atletico unable to make any further changes.

That has left many Atletico fans lauding Torreira on social media. It is too soon to say whether Arsenal will rue loaning him out this summer.

It did appear that he was going to struggle to get any game-time under Mikel Arteta. And of course, the hopes are high in North London that Thomas Partey will prove an inspired signing.

But if Torreira’s display is a sign of what is to come, the Gunners will be grateful that he has only left on a temporary basis.

Here is how some of the Atleti fans reacted to Torreira’s display…
