Charlie Nicholas is backing Arsenal to ease to a comfortable victory over Standard Liege in the Europa League at The Emirates on Thursday night.
The Gunners made an impressive start to their Europa League campaign with a resounding 3-0 victory over German club Eintracht Frankfurt in Germany last month.
Bukayo Saka, 18, impressed with two goals in Arsenal’s triumph against the Bundesliga outfit to earn rave reviews.
Standard Liege also secured three points on opening night thanks to a 2-0 win at home to Portuguese visitors Vitoria SC.
Arsenal have bounced back from a sticky patch in the Premier League with a return of three victories in their last four games in all competitions.
Unai Emery’s side managed to fight back from 1-0 down to secure a 1-1 draw with bitter rivals Manchester United at Old Trafford on Monday night.
Former Arsenal midfielder Nicholas believes the Gunners will secure a 3-0 win over Belgian opponents Standard Liege on Thursday night.
“This is another game to use the young talent,” Nicholas told Sky Sports.
“I would not expect Standard Liege to be great travellers, but they will try to counter-attack. When the Arsenal youngsters get a lot of the ball it suits them, that is what they are taught.
“I am expecting a change of goalkeepers and Rob Holding and Hector Bellerin to start. Kieran Tierney didn’t play at Old Trafford so he could be involved.
“Joe Willock, Bukayo Saka and Gabriel Martinelli are busting their gut to make a regular claim for the first team, and a convincing win for Arsenal in the Europa League is a good place to start.”
Arsenal reached the Europa League final last season before a 4-1 loss to Chelsea FC in the Baku showpiece.
The Gunners have picked up seven points at home in each of their previous two Europa League group stage campaigns.
Arsenal haven’t conceded home or away in any of their last six group encounters – and they have won six of their last seven Europa League matches.
