With the Gunners already 1-0 down following Christian Eriksen’s early strike, Xhaka’s two-footed lunge on Son Heung-Min saw Spurs awarded a penalty.
Harry Kane made no mistake from the spot to make it 2-0 before Alexandre Lacazette pulled a goal back on the stroke of half-time.

Arsenal fans weren’t in a forgiving mood on social media as scores of tweets rolled in criticising the Switzerland international for yet another rash tackle.
‘Sell him at half-time,’ read one succinct tweet from Twitter user.
Another user tweeted: ‘Xhaka tackle like a child playing defense of FIFA for first time. Astonishing.’
Xhaka was also criticised by Sky Sports pundit Gary Neville, who had earlier questioned why the midfielder commits so many fouls.
‘He’s 26-years-old, he’s an experienced player who never becomes experienced,’ he said.
‘It’s absolute madness from Xhaka. He does it week in, week out. Season after season. He doesn’t seem to learn.’
Remarkably, Xhaka wasn’t booked for his tackle on Son, but was at last shown a yellow card in the 92nd minute for a foul on Kane.
