Samuel Umtiti has instructed FC Barcelona to reject any approach for the Frances defender in the summer transfer window, according to a report in England.
The Daily Star, as quoted by Metro, is reporting that FC Barcelona centre-half has decided that he doesn’t want to move in the summer transfer window despite failing to secure a regular starting spot in Ernesto Valverde’s side over the past 12 months.
The same article states that Arsenal manager Unai Emery had made Umtiti one of his top priorities in the summer transfer window as the Gunners look to improve their defence ahead of the new season.
According to the same story, Umtiti has told FC Barcelona to turn down any offers for the France international as the former Lyon defender is happy to remain at Camp Nou.
Umtiti, who won the World Cup in Russia last summer, was in and out of the FC Barcelona first-team in the 2018-19 season to raise questions about the France international’s long-term future at the Catalan side.
Umtiti has won two La Liga titles and two Copa del Rey trophies since his big-money move to FC Barcelona from Lyon in the 2017 summer transfer window.
FC Barcelona lost 4-3 on aggregate to Premier League side Liverpool FC in the Champions League to miss out on a place in the Madrid final.
Arsenal, on the other hand, suffered a 4-1 defeat by Chelsea FC in the Europa League showpiece.
