Celtic face a tough battle as they plan to keep Kieran Tierney. According to The Scottish Sun, Napoli are now in the race to sign Tierney.
The Scotland international is rated at around £25m by Celtic and Napoli have made an enquiry. The Italian heavyweights join Arsenal in pursuit of Celtic’s prized asset.
Arsenal want a new left-back to compete with Sead Kolasinac. And Tierney has emerged as a promising young talent who could become a future star.
Having seen fellow Scotsman Andrew Robertson thrive since swapping Scotland for England, Arsenal want to do the same with Tierney. And the player might be tempted to follow Liverpool star Robertson’s example.
But Napoli could put a spanner in the works for the Gunners. The Serie A side finished second last season and Carlo Ancelotti wants his side to push Juventus for the title.
Tierney is a top target for Napoli. The 22-year-old already has over 150 Celtic appearances to his name despite his young age and is tipped for a bright future.
As the interest in Tierney increases, Celtic’s hopes of holding onto him are looking tougher.
Napoli and Arsenal could both offer Tierney much higher wages and if they meet Celtic’s £25m demands, that is a decent price for their young left-back.
But the Bhoys have one trump card up their sleeve. Tierney is a boyhood Celtic fan and he might want to continue his project at Parkhead in 2019/20. But whether Celtic can keep him for the long-term future is another challenge.
