Arsenal defender Shkodran Mustafi could be set for a shock deadline day exit. According to the Sky Sports blog on European deadline day [09:49], Juventus are weighing up a late swoop for Mustafi.
Juventus are trying to sign a new central defender before the transfer window shuts today. Several options have emerged, including Jerome Boateng, Mehdi Benatia and Liverpool’s Dejan Lovren.
But Mustafi is also an option for the Serie A champions. Giorgi Chiellini suffered a long-term injury at the weekend. With the Italy international out with a knee injury, Mustafi is a late target.
However, this report adds that it is unlikely that Mustafi will join Juventus before the European deadline. The Germany international could now be isolated at Arsenal until January.
If this move to Juventus falls through, Mustafi could regret not forcing a move. With David Luiz, Rob Holding, Sokratis and Calum Chambers all preferred to him, the 27-year-old is not going to get any game time in North London.
Roma have shown an interest in Mustafi earlier this summer (Forza Roma) but they signed Chris Smalling instead. Mustafi has been frozen out by Unai Emery and could get stuck with the Gunners until the January window opens.
