Gremio forward Everton Soares missed training yesterday (Monday 22 July) in order to sort personal issues, according to Brazilian outlet Globo Esporte.
They report that the Brazilian is in talks with Arsenal and Edu is confident of getting the deal done, even though the Gunners will need to up their offer to do so.
Arsenal reportedly have an intermediary talking to the forward and although he’s expected to be back in today (Tuesday), perhaps a deal is edging closer.
Everton shone at the Copa America this summer and has perhaps emerged as a more realistic alternative to Wilfried Zaha during a transfer window that is vital for Arsenal but has as yet not signalled much movement.
Gremio’s financial situation means that a deal looks to be there for Everton, it’s just a case of whether Arsenal will stretch their budget to get it over the line.
Edu’s appointment has come at the perfect time in terms of this deal – he has just come from working with Everton at the Copa America and arrives determined to get to work quickly.
This is the kind of transfer the former Invincible was brought to the club to secure and it could be a hugely exciting one – Arsenal fans will hope that he was missing training in order to move forward on a move to the Emirates Stadium.
