Arsenal could face a battle to keep Lucas Torreira at the club. According to Tutto Mercato Web, Torreira features on AC Milan’s summer wishlist.
AC Milan and Arsenal are both set to play in the Europa League next season after disappointing campaigns. Arsenal missed the chance to qualify for the Champions League after finishing fifth and losing in the Europa League final, while AC Milan ended the season one point behind bitter rivals Inter Milan.
Arsenal will be eager to keep Torreira after an impressive debut campaign in England. But AC Milan could test their resolve if they firm up their interest with a concrete bid.
At the moment, though, this is just a transfer plan for AC Milan. Any potential transfer swoop hinges on whether the Serie A side can ship some players first.
Torreira joined Arsenal from Sampdoria last summer, having previously played in Italy for Pescara as well. The 23-year-old caught the eye with some tenacious midfield performances.
His tough-tackling approach won over the fans and he soon became a cult hero with his own song. In his first season, the Uruguay international played 50 times. But AC Milan could try to lure him away.
Arsenal are surely in a good position to keep Torreira here. The midfielder signed a five-year deal last summer and he has expressed no desire to leave.
AC Milan can only offer him Europa League football (which he has at Arsenal) and Serie A football (which he had last season with Sampdoria).
With no pressure to sell, Arsenal need to ensure Torreira is fully focused and ready to push the Gunners higher up the league table next season.
