ESPN have claimed that Lyon midfielder Houssem Aouar is surprised that Arsenal have not tried harder to sign him from the Ligue 1 side – having only made a solitary £31million offer for the French ace in the summer.
Aouar, 22, has been excellent for Lyon over the past couple of seasons – having a hand in 19 goals during his 41 games for the French outfit last season. This season, his form has slightly dipped, but is still impressive.
Back in the summer, Arsenal were strongly-linked for the one-time France international. However, ESPN state that they made just one offer of £31million – which is considerably lower than Lyon’s asking price for Aouar.
Now, ESPN report that the player himself is stunned at Arsenal’s failure to go back in four Aouar and try harder to get his signature. It is also claimed that he has not ruled out a move to North London, but is looking elsewhere.
TBR’s view – Partey was needed ahead of Aouar
The signing of Thomas Partey was crucial and his signing was a more important one than Aouar – which has been proved since, after Emile Smith-Rowe has broken into the side and softened the need for a number 10.
But the desire to bring in a 10 should still be there and Aouar would be an excellent addition. Martin Odegaard, though, looks a more likely move if Real Madrid are willing to sanction a loan for the Norway international.
