Arsenal defender Laurent Koscielny is close to sealing his departure from the Emirates Stadium, with RMC Sport reporting he has agreed personal terms with Rennes.
The defender has angered fans by refusing to travel for the club’s pre-season tour of the US, amid reported transfer interest from three Ligue 1 sides.
Rennes, Bordeaux and Lyon had been credited with interest in the 33-year-old, and it would appear the former are now in pole position.
Koscielny still has a year to run on his contract with the Gunners, and the club don’t want to lose the Frenchman for nothing.
Arsenal need to move this along as quickly as they can.
The situation with Koscielny has descended into a mess, and it needs resolving with just weeks remaining until the transfer window closes.
Realistically, the Gunners should be getting rid of Arsene Wenger’s 2010 signing, with his best years well behind him.
The club should be seeking to cut their losses. It may be seen as caving to a player’s demands, but given Koscielny’s lack of sell-on value on declining ability, it’s a decision that’s worth considering.
