According to a new report from the Daily Star, Arsenal are looking to offload winger Nicolas Pepe in 2021, with the club even open to a move in January if it comes about.
Mikel Arteta is apparently growing frustrated with Pepe’s inconsistent performances, with the red card at Leeds last week not helping matters.
Pepe, who cost over £70m a few seasons back, has failed to shine since his arrival at Arsenal and the report claims those higher up the chain at The Emirates have an acceptance that they’ve paid over the odds for the Ivorian.
The 25-year-old put in a good performance in midweek at Molde but those displays have been too few and far between. He will also miss the next three league games through suspension, so won’t get the chance to build on that showing.
Pepe has come in for criticism in recent weeks. Former midfielder Paul Merson questioned what he brought to the table, while Ray Parlour also had some doubts over his suitability for the Gunners.

Despite his midweek efforts, the fact remains that Nicolas Pepe just hasn’t got going to the level Arsenal would have expected.
Whether that be in overall performance levels or in terms of goals and assists, it’s just not happened. A move away might benefit everyone, even if it’s a short-term loan to get Pepe’s confidence back up.
With a contract until 2024, he should still hold some value if the Gunners want to sell, although they won’t get anywhere near what they forked out to Lille for him you’d assume.
