Arsenal are chasing the signature of Southampton defender Cedric Soares this summer, according to Portuguese outlet Diario de Noticias.
They report that the Gunners are ready to battle with French duo Paris Saint-Germain and Monaco for the Portuguese international defender.
Cedric is apparently going into the final year of his St Mary’s contract – which Spotrac say is worth £65,000 per week – which means that this summer likely represents Southampton’s final chance to raise serious cash for him.
And that has led reportedly Arsenal to contract the Saints over the possibility of signing Cedric, who spent the second half of last season out on loan at Inter.
At 27, Cedric still has plenty of years left in him and is a player who has proved himself at Premier League and international level.
He looked to have fallen away last season when he went out on loan, but he has gone on the pre-season tour with Southampton, suggesting the spell at the San Siro did the trick.
Arsenal of course have Hector Bellerin, but he will miss the start of the season with injury and Unai Emery’s right back options look rather light for the opening weeks of the campaign.
Ainsley Maitland-Niles is a midfielder by trade and Carl Jenkinson isn’t up to scratch, so this is one that would make sense for the Gunners.
