The Sun have reported that Arsenal have joined Manchester United in the race to sign Russian striker Aleksandr Sobolev – after the on-fire goal machine confirmed Gunners scouts watched Sobolev score a brace on Saturday.
The 22-year-old has been in stunning form for current side Krylia Sovetov, scoring 10 goals in 13 league and cup outings. His stunning form has since seen Manchester United become interesedted – with his current asking price set at £15million.
But it seems as though Arsenal have entered the race to sign Sobolev, who now has 21 goals in 39 lappearances for his current team. The striker confirmed Gunners scouts were in attendance as he scored a brace in Sovetov’s 2-0 win over Sochi.
“I was told after the Sochi game that Arsenal scouts came to see me,” Sobolev said. “In my opinion this is true. I am not 100 per cent sure, but this is what I was told. They said that the scouts were sitting in the stand.”
TBR’s view – Sobolev would be an excellent signing for Arsenal
But a move to Manchester United would be better for the Russia Under-21 international. At The Emirates, Unai Emery boasts Alexandre Lacazatte, Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang and Gabriel Martinelli.
It would be near impossible to get a look in for the Gunners, but at Old Trafford, he would get plenty of opportunities. Ole Gunnar Solskjaer has just an out-of-form Marcus Rashford, and youngster Mason Greenwood as options.
Adding Sobolev would give United an excellent option, who is ready for first-team football.
