Arsenal have agreed to take Dani Ceballos on a season-long loan from Real Madrid, according to BBC Sport.
The Gunners have beaten North London rivals Tottenham to the sought-after signature.
Ceballos is a versatile midfield player, capable of operating as an out-and-out midfielder, or as a number ten.
During the recent Under-21 European Championships he scored two goals and claimed two assists as Spain won the tournament.
The six-cap senior international fell down the pecking order under Zinedine Zidane last season. He wasn’t in the squad for five of Madrid’s last six games of the campaign.
In total, Ceballos has played in 56 games for the Spanish giants, scoring five goals and registering two assists.
He arrived in the Spanish capital from Real Betis in 2017 but of yet he has failed to prove his potential at the club.
Ceballos will become Arsenal’s second summer recruit behind young winger Gabriel Martinelli.
Ceballos is certainly an exciting signing for the Gunners to make during this transfer window.
A loan move isn’t always ideal, but with Arsenal working to a smaller budget, signing the Spaniard for a year is decent.
Given that he is down the pecking order at Madrid there is every possibility that Arsenal may sign him permanently next year if he performs well.
The £20k-a-week performer looks like the perfect type of player to replace Aaron Ramsey.
He can operate in the number eight role, or the number ten and he possesses the qualities required to be a hit in the Premier League.
This arrival needs to have a domino effect, however.
Arsenal still need a couple more to come in prior to the transfer window closing and this should be just the start.
The Gunners have been pushing hard for Wilfried Zaha and a few other players. Unai Emery’s squad needs reinforcements and he will hope to get them in the coming weeks.
