Report; Arsenal missed out on rapid 25-year-old international in January because Emery insisted on flop Suarez

Arsenal’s bloated behind the scenes recruitment structure is causing problems with regards getting transfer targets over the line, according to Football.London.

They report that when Arsene Wenger left the club, there was hope that a more collaborative approach to transfers could lead to a smoother process and more expert input on deals.

But in actual fact, former head of recruitment Sven Mislintat apparently saw his targets pushed to one side as Unai Emery personally insisted on targets identified by head of football Raul Sanllehi.

There is now apparently an interim head of recruitment – Francis Cagigao, chief negotiator Huss Fahmy and other faces clogging up the decision-making process.

The main reported upshot of that is Belgian international flier Yannick Carrasco in the January transfer window because Emery insisted on following through with the loan swoop for Denis Suarez, who absolutely flopped.

The deal for Carrasco never got over the line because of that, leaving the Gunners to count the cost of missing out as they failed to qualify for the Champions League with a late-season collapse.

Suarez returned to Barcelona early, as he completely failed to get to grips with what Arsenal wanted.

This is an enormous summer for Arsenal on the recruitment side and they cannot afford to drop the ball again too many times like they did with the 25-year-old during the winter.
