Arsenal are monitoring the situation of CSKA Moscow striker Fedor Shalov with designs on a summer move, according to Sky Sports News.
They report that after Shalov netted 15 goals last time around to be the top scorer in the Russian Super League, Unai Emery is keen on the 21-year-old prospect.
Arsenal themselves know all about Shalov, as he scored against them in the Europa League quarter-finals in 2017/18, when the Russian club gave the Gunners a scare.
The Russian hitman further boosted his reputation by scoring against Real Madrid in the group stages of this season’s Champions League, in a 3-0 win that stunned the Bernabeu.
Arsenal are already strong up front with Alexandre Lacazette and Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang dragging the team along at times last season.
But after Danny Welbeck’s departure, Emery may feel he needs a third-choice hitman, with Eddie Nketiah the next cab off the rank – and he’s talented but raw.
It seems like Chalov knows where the net is and is already doing the business in European competition against big sides – so it’s easy to see why Emery would want him.
He has also already made his senior international bow, against Belgium earlier this year. The player seems to be going places.
