Spanish outlet El Confidencial have claimed that Arsenal have joined Tottenham Hotspur and West Ham United in the race for Real Madrid playmaker Dani Ceballos this summer.
The 22-year-old has had a somewhat frustrating campaign at Real Madrid, starting just 19 of his 34 league and cup appearances this season. He has scored three goals from the middle of the park.
Tottenham are in pole position to sign Ceballos given that Mauricio Pochettino is desperate to bring him to north London. Real Madrid’s interest in Christian Eriksen could also prove an advantage.
The Daily Express claim the six-time Spain international is available for a bargain £20million, and that has tempted Arsenal to join the race for Ceballos. They are likely to be on the lookout for an Aaron Ramsey replacement.
Ceballos has a contract at Real until the summer of 2023, but with Toni Kroos, Luka Modric, Marco Asensio and Casemiro ahead of him in the pecking order, his departure is likely this summer.
Losing Ramsey is going to his Arsenal hard and they need a replacement that can score goals from midfield, but also boasts excellent stamina.
Ceballos certainly is able to score from deep and was more than capable of surpassing 34 appearances last season. But is he good enough to replace Ramsey? Certainly, there are question marks.
For £20million, he is definitely worth the risk, though.
