Arsenal are reportedly interested in signing Borussia Dortmund defender, Dan-Axel Zagadou.
That’s according to France Football, who claim the Gunners have shortlisted the Frenchman despite being aware a deal will be ‘difficult’.
Zagadou has emerged as one of the Bundesliga’s brightest young talents over the past couple of years.
The 6ft 5in central defender joined Dortmund from Paris Saint-Germain in 2017 in the hope of getting regular football having only represented the French champions’ B side.
Despite some injury problems he has managed to achieve that, making 38 appearances for the club so far.
Lucien Favre has turned to Zagadou at every available opportunity since becoming manager, but the £34 million signing of Mats Hummels (The Guardian) might mean less minutes for the colossus going forwards.
Arsenal could do with a physically imposing centre-back and Zagadou is certainly that.
The starlet, who has just captained his country at the U20 World Cup, has huge potential and all the tools to become a dominant defender at the highest level.
He reads the game well and is often at an advantage against strikers given his massive frame.
Zagadou is also not bad on the ball, as evidenced by his 87.8% passing accuracy in the Bundesliga in 2018/19 (via WhoScored).
If Arsenal really are keen they’ll do well to sign Zagadou, but the Hummels deal surely must give them some encouragement.
