Report: Arsenal interested in £110,000-a-week Premier League enforcer

Arsenal have been credited with an interest in Chelsea midfielder Tiemoue Bakayoko.

RMC Sport claim Gunners manager Unai Emery ‘appreciates his profile’, having seen him in Ligue 1 whilst managing Paris Saint-Germain.

The former AS Monaco player spent last season out on loan at AC Milan following a poor debut season at Stamford Bridge following his £40 million transfer (BBC Sport).

The Gunners face competition from Manchester United for the 24-year-old, with the Red Devils fearful of losing Nemanja Matic and Paul Pogba this summer.

A decision will apparently be made on his future next week, with Frank Lampard currently assessing his options as the team undertake their pre-season training in Dublin.

TBR’s view

It is difficult to see Chelsea selling to Arsenal, especially with the club under a transfer ban.

Bakayoko had a decent season over at Milan last term, and could potentially come in handy for Lampard in his first season in charge, especially with the club competing on four fronts.

With the £110,000-a-week Frenchman (Spotrac) under contract until 2022, the Blues are in a strong position over the player for any potential negotiations.

Arsenal’s shoestring budget will likely mean that this one is simply a non-starter. Perhaps the best they can hope for is a loan deal with an option to buy, but Lampard surely wouldn’t want to do business with a Premier League rival.
