Arsenal are keeping tabs on Senegalese winger Ismaila Sarr this summer, according to a report by Sky Sports News.
They report that the Gunners view the Rennes speedster as an alternative to Wilfried Zaha as they seek to improve their wide options.
Sarr is apparently also wanted by Roma and fellow Premier League club Watford, and is valued at around £35 million – around half the price quoted for Zaha.
So while the Hornets would need to break their transfer record in order to sign Sarr, the deal may well be more affordable for Arsenal if they decide to give up on Zaha.
The worry for Arsenal is that Watford or Roma get the deal done for Sarr while they’re deciding whether they can afford Zaha or not.
This summer is so important for the Gunners and the fact that they have not yet brought in a senior new arrival must be a concern for the fans and Unai Emery alike.
It seems at this moment in time that Sarr is seen as something of a backup plan and dallying around could see Arsenal miss out just as much as it could see them drive the price down.
Sarr is also currently off at the African Cup of Nations, where he has helped Senegal into the knockout rounds – and more strong performances there are only likely to increase his value and interest in him.
