TalkSport transfer guru Alex Crook has suggested that Mat Ryan could be a goalkeeping target for Arsenal during January.
The Australian has lost his place at the AMEX Stadium and it is thought he could be allowed to leave this month.
Arsenal are likely to be in the market for a new stopper to compete for the gloves with Bernd Leno.
Runar Runarsson hasn’t enjoyed a good start to life at the Emirates Stadium. He was calamitous against Manchester City during the Carabao Cup defeat and could be allowed to leave on loan.
That would leave the Gunners short in the goalkeeping department and Mikel Arteta would look to strengthen.
Ryan signed for the Seagulls in 2017 from Valencia, costing £5.3 million. He has made 123 appearances for the club, keeping 28 clean sheets.
He hasn’t been included in the last six of Graham Potter’s squads, however, and is behind Robert Sanchez and Jason Steele in the pecking order.
Ryan earns £35,000-a-week at Brighton and could prove a cost-effective option for Arsenal to explore.
TBR View – Ryan a safe pair of hands for the Gunners to consider
At 27, the man with 58 caps for his country might fancy regular first-team football.
He could, however, just welcome the chance of a fresh start somewhere else and that could entice him to Arsenal.
Bernd Leno has been in good form this season and whoever the Gunners do sign will only come in as a backup.
Ryan has proved himself to be a solid goalkeeper during his time at Brighton and his demise is strange.
Right now, Arsenal are still in Europe and in the FA Cup so there should be plenty of chances for the ex-La Liga man to play.
The Gunners could do a lot worse than make a move for Ryan.
