According to the Mirror, Wilfried Zaha has asked Crystal Palace to allow him to join Arsenal this summer. The Eagles’ talismanic winger was a childhood supporter of the Gunners and is determined to switch to the Emirates Stadium. However, his current price tag of £80 million looks to have put him beyond the north London club’s reach.
Crystal Palace are understandably hesitant to allow Zaha to leave Selhurst Park. The 26-year-old’s importance to Roy Hodgson’s side cannot be overstated. Last season, the 9-cap Ivory Coast international registered 10 goals and 10 assists in the Premier League. Having already lost Aaron Wan-Bissaka to Manchester United this summer, the south London outfit will be desperate to hang onto their other prized asset.
What’s more, Zaha’s current contract isn’t set to expire until 2023. Therefore, Crystal Palace are under no pressure to bend to the player’s will.
With all this taken into account, Unai Emery should take his search for summer reinforcements elsewhere. Arsenal don’t currently have the financial firepower to force through a move for Zaha. On top of that, the Gunners have lots of work to do this summer and would be wise to steer clear of a long-running, high profile transfer saga.
