Report: £75,000-a-week Arsenal man wanted by former manager won’t force move away

Lucas Torreira is settled at Arsenal and will not force a swift return to Serie A this summer, according to the Daily Telegraph.

They report that the midfielder is wanted by his former Sampdoria manager Marco Giampaolo, who is now in charge of AC Milan, but he is happy to remain the Emirates Stadium.

The report aims to skewer the perception that Torreira is a man unhappy in London and itching to return to Italy – he is apparently learning English and improving all the time as well as getting used to the English weather.

Milan would apparently have to pay well over the £25 million that brought Torreira to Arsenal last summer to get the £75,000-a-week (Spotrac) midfielder and Torreira will not agitate for a switch.

It’s important and encouraging for Arsenal that Torreira is not the unsettled, unhappy character he has been portrayed to be in some quarters.

He was one of the bright spots of Arsenal’s season last term and is one of the few players actually chosen by Unai Emery to fit his new Gunners blueprint.

That energy is crucial to a squad that stagnated under Arsene Wenger and Emery is still battling along with many of the players the Frenchman put together.

But Torreira looks set to stay put and help Arsenal avoid further upheaval during a summer which is so important for them.
