Arsenal defender Konstantinos Mavropanos was apparently set for a move back to Greece before injury intervened, according to Greek outlet SDNA.
Unai Emery is embarking on clearing the decks while the European transfer window remains open after a domestic period where a host of players came to the club.
But he looks set to be stuck with the Greek defender until the winter, until he is fully recovered from his injury and a viable option for buying clubs.
TBR’s View – If Mavropanos can’t establish himself given Arsenal’s lack of centre halves, he never will
Mavropanos has never truly established himself at Arsenal, and given that the Gunners have been so weak at centre half during that time, it doesn’t bode well.
Emery seems reasonably happy to see him leave and it’s not an especially good sign that it’s only injury which has likely kept him being an Arsenal player.
For Mavropanos, playing regularly is the most important thing at this stage of his career, and that must be his focus in January once he’s recovered.
