Atletico Madrid reportedly want to sign Arsenal full-back Hector Bellerin – and could offer Vitolo has part of the deal.
According to The Telegraph, the Champions League regulars are keen on the Spaniard, who has been sidelined since January after suffering a bad knee injury.
Atletico have lost Juanfran and need a replacement – and Bellerin apparently fits the bill.
The 24-year-old has been with the Gunners since 2011 after moving from Barcelona.
His current contract still has four years left to run, meaning Arsenal are in a strong position over Bellerin.
Atleti’s willingness to offer Vitolo is interesting – Gunners boss Unai Emery knows the versatile ace well having previously worked with him at Sevilla.
This is not a deal Arsenal should be considering.
Despite some patchy form in recent years, Bellerin remains one of Arsenal’s better prospects.
At the age of just 24 he is still some years off his peak, whereas Vitolo, 29, will arguably soon start to decline.
Bellerin – who earns £110,000-a-week (Spotrac) – was one of Arsenal’s better players under Emery before his injury, and his sale would likely upset quite a few fans.
Arsenal are targeting a return to the Champions League, and they need to keep hold of their better players in order to achieve that.
Emery does need to boost his transfer kitty through player sales, but Bellerin should not part of that particular conversation.
