Arsenal‘s head of football Raul Sanllehi has claimed that Mesut Ozil could still have a future at the club under Unai Emery, but ‘he needs to contribute 24/7’.
Ozil has been restricted to just two appearances in all competitions for Arsenal this season, and often hasn’t even been included in the matchday squad.
There have been suggestions that Ozil could join Fenerbahce on loan, but Sanllehi believes that the midfielder could work his way back into Emery’s plans if he applies himself correctly.
Raul Sanllehi has claimed that Mesut Ozil can force his way back into the Arsenal team
As reported by The Sun, Sanllehi said: ‘Unai has had many good players in other teams also, and he has always followed the same policy.
‘That is to try not to make any distinctions, play the ones who work hard in training and reward the effort with playing time.
‘There is nothing against Mesut on the contrary and I hope we get to see him much more in the next games because his qualities are without question.
Sanllehi, Arsenal’s head of football, stressed that Ozil ‘needs to contribute 24/7’
‘But he needs to contribute 24/7 and that’s what Unai expects from him.’
Ozil has found himself of the periphery of proceedings, with the likes of Matteo Guendouzi, Joe Willock and Dani Ceballos all ahead of him.
Sanllehi dismissed claims, however, that Emery has ruled Ozil out of contention completely.
Ozil has been restricted to two appearances for Arsenal so far this season in all competitions
Sanllehi said: ‘It’s not that he’s not working so well, but there are others who are deserving more playing time, but Unai can’t treat him differently than any other player.
‘You may have read that Unai has put a barrier up, but nothing at all like this has happened.’
Ozil’s contract at Arsenal runs until the summer of 2021, with the former Germany international earning £350,000 per week.
Arsenal have lacked creativity at times this season, with some supporters suggesting that Ozil would improve the team significantly.
Last campaign Ozil scored five goals and provided two assists in 24 Premier League appearances.
