Former Celtic and Arsenal striker turned pundit John Hartson has had his say on Kieran Tierney’s future on his official Twitter account.
The Guardian report that Arsenal want to get Tierney for around £18 million, but Celtic value him closer to £25 million – and Hartson is not impressed with the Gunners.
He wrote: “KT (Kieran Tierney) situation is Arsenal have made an offer of £15m for the player. It’s taking the P***. Celtic rightly have refused as they don’t want to sell.
“Arsenal to up the stakes to £20m with addons. £25m, then it’s Celtic’s call. They could just say no of course!”
Hartson’s frustrations likely come from his links to Celtic – where Tierney is seen as a hero and for some fans, no amount of money offered would be enough to snare him.
But Arsenal are negotiating and trying to see if Celtic will budge, especially given the fact that the Bhoys transfer budget may be in need of swelling.
It might be that Celtic end up selling for £25 million and not budging on their valuation – and if Arsenal want their man quickly, that’s what they’ll pay.
But in a window where Arsenal want to get every bit of value they can out of the market, as well as avoid getting a reputation for paying huge money up front, it’s understandable they’d lowball slightly for Tierney – even if it requires some patience from the fans.
