Piers Morgan has taken to social media to reveal that he was encouraged by Nicolas Pepe’s performance in Arsenal’s 1-0 win over Bournemouth on Sunday afternoon.
The Ivory Coast international had come in for some criticism following an ineffective performance in Arsenal’s 1-1 draw with Manchester United last week.
The 24-year-old club-record signing played 63 minutes of Arsenal’s victory over Bournemouth at The Emirates on Sunday before being replaced by Gabriel Martinelli in the 63rd minute.
David Luiz scored the only goal of the game in the ninth minute at The Emirates as the Gunners secured a victory which moved them up into third place in the Premier League table.
Despite Pepe not getting on the score-sheet, celebrity Arsenal fan Morgan was impressed by his display and he is backing Pepe to eventually find his feet and become a key player for the Gunners.
Writing on Twitter during the game, Morgan said: “Pepe looking much sharper today… #afcbou.”
Replying to a fan who said that Pepe needs to score soon, Morgan added in a separate tweet: “He will score.
“Pepe reminds me of Thierry when he first joined us… took him a while to settle in but so much explosive pace and talent.”
Pepe has scored one goal and made one assist in eight Premier League games so far this term.
Pepe will be hoping to start for the Gunners when they return to action after the international break with a trip to Sheffield United in just over two weeks’ time.
The winger signed for the Gunners from Lille in the summer transfer window as he became the north London club’s most expensive ever signing.
