Paul Gascoigne has told Football London that he does not believe Arsenal will finish in the top four places of the Premier League come May 2020, but north London rivals Tottenham Hotspur will.
The Gunners have started well this season, securing narrow wins over Newcastle United and Burnley. However, they were completely outclassed when coming up against Champions League winners Liverpool – beaten 3-1 at Anfield.
Unai Emery’s side sit in third place with six points, two above Tottenham Hotspur. It looked as though Spurs had got off to a very strong start after their first two games, beating Aston Villa and securing an excellent draw away at Manchester City.
But a lacklustre defeat to Newcastle at home has seen Mauricio Pochettino describe his squad as unsettled. Ahead of Sunday’s north London derby between the two sides, Spurs legend Gascoigne discussed who will finish in the top four.
“Liverpool are looking strong as well but I cannot see anyone stopping Man City. They are just going to keep on buying and it’s quite scary,” Gascoigne said. “I think it will be Man City, Liverpool, Tottenham and Manchester United. I think Arsenal are playing good football as well.”
TBR’s view – Tottenham must turn it around, starting on Sunday
Spurs need to turn it around and end a bad week on a high with a win over their closest of rivals. If they are beatean by the Gunners, they will be five points behind Arsenal after just four league games.
Gascoigne’s former side do still have that quality, though, especially in defence which Arsenal lack. With both sides coming into the match off the back of a defeat, it is intriguing to see who will come out on top.
But Spurs need the win more on Sunday, after a terrible week in which pundits have criticised the squad harmony and lack of drive from Pochettino.
