Nice boss Patrick Vieira rules himself out of Newcastle job

Patrick Vieira has ruled out a return to the Premier League to take charge of Newcastle and insisted he is happy as boss of Ligue 1 side OGC Nice.

The ex-Arsenal captain had been tipped as a possible candidate to replace Rafa Benitez, who left St James’ Park when his contract expired at the end of June.

Vieira is reportedly on a four-man shortlist alongside Steven Gerrard, Eddie Howe and Mikel Arteta, but committed himself to his current managerial post.

Vieira said: ‘I am at OGC Nice long-term. I have no intention of going elsewhere.

‘I’ve always felt good here and with the people around me. I can’t see myself anywhere other than OGC Nice.’

The 43-year-old led Nice to a seventh-placed finish in his first season after joining from New York City FC.

He started his coaching career in Manchester City’s youth teams after ending his trophy-laden playing career there.
